With this week’s earthquake AND Hurricane Irene on the way, all this “2012-end-of-the-world” madness makes it seem sort of appropriate that Twel2ve premieres in Park City tonight. This year, Absinthe teamed up w/Mikey LeBlanc’s new kidsKNOW for exclusive US distribution. They even let him star in their “Pre-Trailer” –
Twel2ve is the latest release from Absinthe Films & features riders Gigi Rüf, Bode Merrill, Dan Brisse, JP Solberg, Annie Boulanger and more. (If you’re in our neck of the woods, you can catch the NYC stop on the flick’s North American Tour in November!)

If you remember the last teaser from the girls at Peepshow, prepare to be extremely jealous. Not only did Session 5 campers at High Cascade get sunny skies & giant doughnuts, but they also got to be the first to watch their latest flick, Winter Wars.

Riders including Bryn Valaika, Colleen Quigley, and Laura Hadar were at the showing in Government Camp where lucky campers got to watch the film, hear from the film’s creators and to top it all off, arm-wrestle for a Roxy Ollie Pop.

Slopestyle Added to 2014 Winter Olympics
On 06, Jul 2011 | No Comments | In News | By Lisa
Yesterday, the International Olympic Committee announced the addition of ski & snowboard slopestyle events to the list of events for 2014′s Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Snowboard parallel slalom was also added along with women’s ski jumping & ski halfpipe back in April. The Committee believes their decision will draw in younger viewers & that adding these popular events will keep the Games more relevant, while the USSA is excited to finally welcome this huge step forward for the future of freestyle skiing & riding.
“The IOC’s decision to add slopestyle to the Olympics recognizes the millions of youth who are already participating in the sport in terrain parks around the world,” said USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt. “It will have a very positive impact on the sport including our U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing programs.”
The scoring & qualification process is still in development and has come across as a concern for some in the industry. TTR & FIS will be joining forces to create a solid strategy on regulating the competitions – a task that’s definitely easier said than done. Whatever the outcome, competitors, aspiring athletes, & spectators can agree that the IOC is headed in the right direction. Expect to see new sports during the 2020 Summer Games too – wakeboarding, karate, & climbing are all being considered.
The Rosa Khutor Skiing Centre & Snowboard Park in Sochi will hold the Freestyle & Snowboard European Cups in March 2012, Freestyle World Cup in February 2013 and Snowboard World Cup in March 2013. At least that should hold us over until 2014…

NJ Helmet Law
On 23, Apr 2011 | No Comments | In News | By Lisa
Earlier this month Gov. Christie signed a bill requiring all NJ skiers & snowboarders age 17 or younger to wear a helmet on the mountain. Effective November 1st, parents/guardians will be subject to fines ($25 for 1st offense, $100 for subsequent offenses) each time their law-breaking grom is caught helmet-less. We’ll probably get some whining & eye-rolls from the teenagers, but let’s be real: we all know it’s a good idea. The sport’s all about progression & if after Kevin Pearce’s injury this winter, you still don’t have a helmet– it’s about time you start protecting your skull!
